Our adventures with stop-motion began when our librarian, Mrs. Bock, was trying to come up with a fun way for us to practice our research skills while helping us learn more about weather. We use a research process called eWISE to help us conduct research. It's an acronym that stands for:
Usually, we start out our research by wondering. But, Mrs. Bock wondered what would happen if we started out with expressing instead. She gave us the task of trying to create a stop-motion video that explained one of the following vocabulary words we were learning in science: land & sea breezes; trade winds; conduction; convection; radiation; or global winds. We quickly found out that there were a lot of things that we wondered and had to investigate to be able to understand these concepts well enough to make a video about them. It wasn't long before all of our work spaces looked like this:
